About the Halsey Trails Club
The Halsey Trails Club (HTC) is a grass roots organization of trail users and concerned citizens who desire to improve trail access, improve trail conditions and  promote understanding among various trail users at the Nebraska National Forest, Bessey Ranger District near Halsey.

Our goals* are:

  • Educate motorized recreation enthusiasts about the consequences of poor trail conduct, and the benefits of responsible trail conduct.
  • Educate all trail users, particularly high impact trails users such as ATV, dirtbike, truck, jeep, equestrian and bicycle enthusiasts about the fragile nature of the sand hill dunes at the Nebraska National Forest, Bessey Ranger District.
  • Organize work days and activities where citizens can participate in repairing existing trail routes and facilities, identifying existing  routes where trail use is allowed, and the restoration of resource damage whether knowingly or un-knowing caused by recreational trail or recreational forest users. 
  • Assist the Forest Service in managing large crowds during major holiday weekends, such as Memorial Day weekend, July 4th weekends, and Labor Day weekends. 
  • Assist local medical/rescue and law enforcement agencies so that they can deal with responding to medical emergencies and law enforcement situations.
  • Assist the local Ranger District in obtaining materials accomplish the above goals.
  • Solicit additional sponsors to help with various trails related needs, projects, etc.
  • Form an advisory committee of various trail users to address issues, conflicts and needs at Bessey.  The advisory committee may contain representatives from each of the following user groups:
    ATV
    Dirtbike (off-road motorcycle)
    Bicycle
    Equestrian (horse)
    Hiker
    Jeep/4x4
    Snowmobile
    4-H
    Allotment holder/rancher
    Local law enforcement
    Local EMS/rescue
    US Forest Service management
  • Possibly form a locally based trail user 5013C non-profit club or a trails foundation to qualify for tax deductible funding from businesses and individuals.
